NSW State 2021/22 Over 60s Titles were won this year by Port Jackson Red in Tamworth
Paul Adams, skipper of Port Jackson Red team proudly holding up the Over 60s State Trophy which was held in Tamworth in the last week in November 2021 in rain affected conditions. All Division 1 games were played on synthetic wickets and Port Jackson narrowly beat Hunter in the first game at Nundle Oval’s particularly black synthetic wicket in a thriller and then to cap it all Port Jackson played Southern Highlands in Manilla only to grasp victory from the ashes of defeat. Port Jackson Red was the only undefeated team in Division 1 and as the rains fell heavily threatening to cut us all off from our return journey by the Peel River flooding, the entire cast of cricketers fled south and north to avoid the impending disaster on wet roads. Not the first time this has happened in Tamworth, mind you and we can think of at least two other occasions when interruptions ruined what would have been great finals (one of course was the Covid based decision by the Queensland Government, closing the border during Day 1 of the CFC!)
Our gracious thanks to Greg Kellett and his Tamworth Veterans Organising committee for all the incredible effort they went to to arrange alternative grounds for us all, especially in Covid times and to Tamworth Council and Wests for hosting us up in this wonderful town.
