INAUGURAL STATE OVER 65s TITLES IN PORT MACQUARIE

Roger Boyd and Simon Lyon in a tug of war with the brand new Norm Stanton Trophy. We were so looking forward to the BIG match but it was not to be thanks to torrential rain at Oxley Oval. We agreed to engrave it and bring it to the Gold Coast and fight over it there!

At the recent State Over 65s Tournament in “sunny” Port Macquarie, two teams shared the spoils in 1st Division, Port Jackson Red and Lismore (Emerging Greys). Sadly the much vaunted final was due to be played at the magnificent Oxley Oval but steady rain on the Wednesday and constant heavy rains on the Thursday meant that the organisers had little choice but to award the Inaugural Title to the two unbeaten sides in Division 1. The fabulous NORM STANTON Trophy, a silver salver, a very apt memorial to the great man who recently had to declare, is seen here held by Lismore Captain Roger Boyd and Port Jackson Reds skipper Simon Lyon.

In Division 2 Port Jackson White were the only unbeaten side and were awarded the trophy outright. Pictured here are the two Sadler brothers, Ralph and Bill, who were thrilled to have the Division 2 trophy named after them and who gave us a good speech at the dinner.

VCNSW thanks Mike Bulmer, Merv Bourke and all their organising committee and volunteers on the Mid North Coast for all their untiring hard work and graciously accept the support from Port Macquarie and Hastings Council and the WESTPORT Club who hosted our main events.
